How to Prepare for Your First Sugaring Session

Your first sugaring appointment is the beginning of a beautiful, smooth journey. To ensure you get the best possible results with the least amount of discomfort, proper preparation is essential.
1. Let It Grow
The golden rule of sugaring: your hair needs to be at least the length of a grain of rice (about 1/4 inch). This usually means putting down the razor for 2 to 3 weeks prior to your appointment. If the hair is too short, the sugar paste won't be able to grip it effectively.
2. Exfoliate, But Not the Day Of
Gently exfoliate the area 2-3 days before your appointment to remove dead skin cells and free any trapped hairs. However, avoid exfoliating on the actual day of your appointment to prevent over-sensitizing your skin.
3. Skip the Lotions and Oils
Arrive at your appointment with clean, dry skin. Do not apply any moisturizers, deodorants, or oils to the area being sugared, as these create a barrier that prevents the sugar paste from adhering to the hair.
4. Dress Comfortably
Wear loose, breathable clothing (preferably cotton) to your appointment. Tight clothing can cause friction and irritate freshly sugared skin.
