How to Prepare for Your Laser Hair Removal Treatment

Preparing correctly for your laser hair removal session is crucial for maximizing your results and ensuring your skin stays safe and comfortable. Here is your complete pre-laser checklist.
1. Shave the Area
Unlike sugaring or waxing, you MUST shave the treatment area 12-24 hours before your laser appointment. We want the laser's energy to travel directly down the hair shaft into the root beneath the skin, rather than being wasted on hair above the surface (which can also cause surface burns).
2. Avoid Sun Exposure
Your skin must be in its natural state. Avoid sunbathing, tanning beds, and self-tanners for at least 2-4 weeks prior to your session. Laser targets pigment, and if your skin is artificially darkened or sunburned, the risk of hyperpigmentation or burns increases significantly.
3. Skip Plucking and Waxing
The laser needs the hair follicle root to be intact to destroy it. Stop plucking, waxing, epilating, or threading at least 4 weeks before your appointment. Shaving is the only approved hair removal method between laser sessions.
4. Clean Skin is Happy Skin
Arrive at your appointment with completely clean skin. Avoid applying lotions, deodorants, makeup, or perfumes to the areas being treated.
5. Check Your Medications
Certain medications (like specific antibiotics or acne treatments) can make your skin photosensitive. Always inform your technician of any new medications you are taking before your session begins.
